Interchange Inner East offers families the opportunity to attend events put together especially for families throughout the year.
These events aim to provide families an opportunity to enjoy a recreation event together as well as time to catch up with friends and meet new families. All of these events are made possible through the fantastic partnerships we have with the Park Orchards Lions Club, Canterbury Rotary, Girl Guides, Rovers, Monarch Motorcycle Club, Apex and The Grand Warrandyte Hotel, here are events in the past 12 months.
Interchange Inner East have held several Twilight Cinema experiences for our families in our grounds. This event is a great night for families to relax together and enjoy a warm summers night under the stars along with a fun family movie on a giant inflatable outdoor screen, accompanied with a sausage sizzle and icecream galore!
Licola Family Camp
In early 2015 Interchange staff and members of the Park Orchards Lions Club visited the Licola Wilderness Village to discuss a potential partnership and the possibility of using the Wilderness Village for a future camp. After many months of planning and an incredible fundraising effort supported by six Lions Clubs (Park Orchards, Box Hill, Vermont, Vermont South, Forest Hill and Wheeler’s Hill), the inaugural Interchange Inner East Family Camp took place on the 29th-31st March this year.
15 families attended the camp, supported by Interchange staff, volunteers and volunteers from the Lions Clubs. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to get to know each other in a supportive environment, to spend time with their own families and get some much needed respite. Activities on offer included the flying fox, abseiling, canoeing, archery, and the giant swing. During breaks families were able to access the mini golf course, volleyball court, low ropes and giant outdoor board games. It was fantastic to see Interchange participants and their siblings enjoying these activities together. On the last night we were all entertained by the Lions Club band who had traveled down from Melbourne especially to perform for Interchange families. Participants raided the dress-up cupboard and donned a fanciful array of costumes including police hats, fairy wings, spider man suits and colorful wigs then danced the night away!
Each year Interchange Inner East holds a Family Festival Day. This event is one of the most popular on the Interchange Inner East calendar and has something for everyone to enjoy. There are a lot of fun things to do like the jumping castle, live music, craft activities, animal farm, sausage sizzle, face painting, balloon creations, motorcycle side car rides, and a visit from Santa and more!
Recharge Family Dinner
A Recharge Dinner for 50 families, sponsored free of charge at the Warrandyte Hotel by its proprietor Steve ( a Lions member) and his wife was held in June. Attendees enjoyed a 3 course meal, wine and entertainment while Interchange offered free child care at Onemda. This was a great night for parents to get together and enjoy a well deserved night out.
