In early 2015 Interchange staff and members of the Park Orchards Lions Club visited the Licola Wilderness Village to discuss a potential partnership and the possibility of using the Wildnerness Village for a future camp. After many months of planning and an incredible fundraising effort supported by six Lions Clubs (Park Orchards, Box Hill, Vermont, Vermont South, Forest Hill and Wheelers Hill), the inaugural Interchange Inner East Family Camp took place on the 29th to 31st March this year. 15 families attended the camp, supported by Interchange staff and volunteers, and volunteers from the Lions Clubs.
It was a wonderful opportunity for families to get to know each other in a supportive environment, to spend time with their own families and get some much needed respite. Activities on offer included the flying fox, abseiling, canoeing, archery, and the giant swing. During breaks families were able to access the mini golf course, volleyball court, low ropes and giant outdoor board games. It was fantastic to see Interchange participants and their siblings enjoying these activities together. On the last night we were all entertained by the Lions Club band who had travelled down from Melbourne especially to perform for Interchange families.
Participants raided the dress-up cupboard and donned a fanciful array of costumes including police hats, fairy wings, spiderman suits and colourful wigs, then danced the night away! The camp was such a great success that the Lions Clubs have committed to supporting the event in following years. Interchange would like to thank the Lions Club members for their hard work and generous sponsorship of this camp. It was an extremely valuable and unforgettable experience for all involved! *There are images to support this, I just need to get appropriate consent for there use.
